Zioncheck for President

A True Story of Idealism and Madness in American Politics

Phil Campbell
October 2005     ISBN: 1560257504

Grant Cogswell loves Seattle so much that he has the city logo tattooed on his arm. To drum up support for his causes, he even once planned to wear a polar bear suit to City Hall. In the summer of 2001, when he decides to run for city council, Phil Campbell--a burned-out, unemployed writer, a manic-depressive who sees few reasons to live--agrees to manage his campaign. For eighteen weeks, Phil devotes himself to Grant's grassroots efforts, all the while attempting to manage a tumultuous personal life.

As Grant's campaign unfolds, so does the tale of US representative Marion Anthony Zioncheck's 1930s odyssey from energetic young politico to a madman who gets sent to the insane asylum. Is Zioncheck's story a lesson already learned or a prophecy waiting to be repeated?
