Dictionary of Republicanisms

Katrina vanden Heuvel
November 2005     ISBN: 156025789X

The Bush administration has perfected the practice of verbal evasion, manipulation and obscurantism. Rove, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. rarely say what they mean or mean what they say. And often, they mean not to say what they really mean. But now there is a path out of the thicket of tangled, mangled language. Clearheaded Nation editor Katrina vanden Heuvel has solicited reader contributions to a Dictionary of Republicanisms.

Some memorable entries from the dictionary: "clarify" is "to repeat the same lie over and over again"; "Fox News" is defined as "White House press office"; "pro-life" means "valuing human life up until birth"; and "God" is another word for "Senior presidential adviser." And there are many more.
